conformaMed Ultra Recommendations for Appropriate Seating Selection Based on Individual Patient/Medical Needs: Average to morbidly obese adult with high risk for pressure ulcer development secondary to lack of motor control or sensation, poor nutrition, severe bony malalignment or existing grade II to grade IV ulcer may exist. Example: Spinal Cord injury or multiple sclerosis with tetraplegia, neuromuscular disorders, cerebral palsy, severe brain injury. Description: Adjustable Skin Protection Cushion The unique design of the conformaMed Ultra cushion system (patented) is based on a highly engineered composite of lightweight shape-memory polymers that self-molds to the user's individual body contours. An advanced suspension platform supports the trochanters, significantly reducing the pressure on the ischial tuberosities and coccyx. The cushion comes with an adjustment kit comprised of a series of engineered components that allows the pressure levels to be adjusted to meet the needs of the patient. In many cases the patient requires little if any pressure adjustments be performed. The integral bolsters channel the legs and position the spine to help create improved postural stability, ensuring a custom fit that significantly improves long-term seating comfort, while providing significant protection from pressure ulcers. In a recent evaluation by a third party organization, a 230 lb male patient with a moderate obliquity was mapped. With a simple adjustment, the patient was remapped and demonstrated peak pressures of 11 mm Hg. Pressure Map Unlike competitive products where gel is repositioned every 24 to 36 hrs. and the constant monitoring of air products, the Ultra cushion has very minimal maintenance. This usually consists of washing the incontinence cover when necessary. In a recent study at a major university, the Ultra demonstrated superior pressure reductions over the major air and gel products. An optional solid seat support base allows the patient to totally float their ischials. This option has been used on other conformaMed cushions and patients with stage IV ulcers have healed completely in 2.5 months and have stayed healed for over 4.5 years. Peak pressure is reported at <2 mm Hg. The Ultra cushion is offered with optional positioning components, inner incontinence cover, etc. at no additional charge.
